Job Description: Accountant/Bookkeeper

Job Summary

The Accountant/Bookkeeper is responsible for the meticulous management of financial records, including grant funds, receipts, payments, and budgets. This dual role also encompasses clerical tasks and data handling, ensuring accuracy and compliance in all financial aspects of the program. The position requires a detail-oriented professional with strong organizational skills, capable of managing multiple financial tasks efficiently.

Duties and Responsibilities:
 

  1. Financial Management:

    • Track and manage grant funds, ensuring accurate recording and allocation in line with grant requirements.

  2. Budgeting and Reporting:

    • Prepare, maintain, and review budgets, providing regular financial reports to management.

  3. Receipts and Payments:

    • Handle the processing of receipts and payments, maintaining precise records of all transactions.

  4. Clerical and Administrative Support:

    • Perform various clerical duties, including document preparation, filing, and data entry.

  5. Data Handling:

    • Manage and organize financial data, ensuring its accuracy and accessibility for audits and reviews.

  6. Compliance:

    • Ensure adherence to financial regulations and standards, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of changes in financial laws and practices.

  7. Collaboration:

    • Work closely with other staff members, contributing to the overall effectiveness of the program’s operations.

  8. Additional Responsibilities:

    • Undertake other tasks as needed, supporting the financial health and transparency of the program.

Qualifications:
 

  1. Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred.

  2. Experience:

    • Proven experience in accounting or bookkeeping roles.

  3. Organizational Skills:

    • Strong ability to manage and prioritize multiple financial tasks.

  4. Technical Proficiency:

    • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.

  5. Attention to Detail:

    • High level of accuracy and attention to detail in handling financial data.

  6. Communication Skills:

    • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  7. Regulatory Knowledge:

    • Familiarity with financial regulations and accounting principles.

  8. Teamwork:

    • Ability to work collaboratively and flexibly within a team environment.

Job Requirements:
 

  1. Educational Background:

    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field preferred.

    • Certification such as CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CMA (Certified Management Accountant) is a plus.

  2. Experience:

    • Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting or bookkeeping, with a strong understanding of non-profit financial management.

  3. Software Skills:

    • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

  4. Analytical Skills:

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to manage budgets, financial reports, and audits.

  5. Compliance Knowledge:

    • In-depth knowledge of financial regulations, accounting principles, and grant management.

  6. Attention to Detail:

    • Exceptional attention to detail to ensure the accuracy of financial records and reports.

  7. Communication Skills:

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective interaction with staff, management, and external stakeholders.

  8. Time Management:

    • Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines.

  9. Ethical Standards:

    • High level of integrity and commitment to maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards in financial management.
